Alternative Processes

Is the pressing of the shutter the end of the photographic process,
or just the beginning?

Colour Toning

Whilst toning a print with Selenium will make it archival, it doesn't alter the appearance of the picture. Try colour toners to add warmth or character. Berg's Blue Toner was used to compliment, Chris's denim jacket, while a Golden\Yellow toner was used to enhance the feeling of warm light bathing the nude model.

Hand Colouring

After toning these prints to make them permanent, they were hand coloured with a single colour from Berg's Hand Colouring Set. Enhancing an otherwise straight forward black and white print.

Liquid Light

The original print on the left was made by sensitizing a piece of Watercolour paper with emulsion in a bottle. Liquid Light, the Fallen Angel was then created, adding her wings and colouring using Pastels.

Polaroids

The print on the left is a Polaroid Transfer. Polaroid 669 film is exposed in a "Daylab" printer, but instead of allowing it to print normally the negative is separated and transferred to a sheet of Watercolour Paper. On the right a Emulsion Transfer is created by boiling off the emulsion in hot water, then transferring it to a Watercolour Paper base.

Computer Imaging

Now with the advent of the Computer, the only limit is your imagination. Whether it is the simple click, click, that created the print on the left or the more complex multi imaged shoot, that created "Once in a Blue Moon" on the right. If you can imagine it, you can create it.
